Last year’s Hot Diggity Dog festival in Canonsburg–created as a one-time event honoring hometown crooner Perry Como’s 100th birthday–is returning this weekend as a "celebration of oldies but goodies." The two-day festival, which last year featured American Idol semi-finalist Adam Brock and the Washington Jazz Orchestra, exceeded everyone’s expectations in terms of attendance. It will be returning with a full slate of oldies bands under the sponsorship of America’s Pop Music Hall of Fame. It’s slated for this Saturday and Sunday—and organizers said volunteers are needed. "Volunteers (are needed) to help with set up of tables and clean them at night, to sell wrist bands for beer drinkers, to pour beer, to assist with clean up, to sell …

The town partied with food, music and a sock hop. People came from all across the globe to partake in the rich musical heritage of Canonsburg, remembering one of the town's favorite sons. Some Perry Como fans flew in from Italy and South America. Frank LoVullo drove down from Buffalo, NY. "I've been following him (Como) for 32 years," LoVullo said. He did a lot for Italian Americans in this country. He showed America that we're not all gangsters." LoVullo had trouble choosing which Como tune was his favorite but he decided on two, "I Want to Give" and "You Are Never Far from …

Funding needed to buy a building in town to make the dream a reality.
Canonsburg Borough has a preliminary contract for a building in town that is planned to be the future home of America’s Pop Music Hall of Fame. Canonsburg Mayor David T. Rhome and borough Manager Terry Hazlett announced the plans Friday during the Hot Diggity Dog Days Festival celebrating Perry Como’s 100th birthday. Being the hometown of pop icons Perry Como, Bobby Vinton, the Four Coins and others, Canonsburg, PA, is the ideal place for the Hall of Fame to be located, local officials contend. Together, the Canonsburg natives had well over 100 songs on the Billboard charts. During his peak of popularity, Perry Como was second only to Elvis Presley—and Bobby Vinton had more Billboard No. 1 hits from 1962 to 1972 than any other male …

Ronald, my "thinking" is shaped by living in other thriving communities. Young people like myself (and by young, I mean middle age) "should" not support anything we don't believe is beneficial to our community. I don't see this as an impact project. These are a few things currently impacting my family: the crack house at the end of our quaint street, obscene graffiti painted on parking meters and…   more ›
