Democrats voice concerns while Republicans lend support for Gov. Tom Corbett's 2013-14 budget.
Western Pennsylvania Democrats had some harsh words for Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed 2013-14 state budget, which he presented Tuesday, while state Republican Party Chairman Rob Gleason called the governor's plan a "balanced and responsible budget that reinvests in Pennsylvania." “The plan presented by the governor is disappointing,” said Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills. “It was long on politics but short on solutions.” State Rep. Pennsylvania House Agricultural Chair John Maher strategized with his team, which went on to win a county fair third place ribbon for milk chugging at the Washington County Fair. Rep. Maher, of Upper St. Clair, will face state Rep. Eugene DePasquale in the November general election for auditor general. Maher is a certified public accountant and founder of Pittsburgh accounting firm Maher Duessel. He is also running unopposed for state representative of the 40th district—an office he has held since 1997.

State Rep. John Maher defeated Frank Pinto in the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania auditor general. "The voters declared today that Pennsylvania deserves an auditor for auditor general," Maher said during his victory speech at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Bethel Park. Maher will face state Rep. Eugene DePasquale of York County in the November general election. DePasquale was unopposed for the Democratic nomination. He grew up in Pittsburgh and is a Central Catholic High School graduate. State Rep. John Maher (R-Upper St. Clair) is running for two offices this election. He's running unopposed for state representative of the 40th District—an office he has held since 1997. Maher is also seeking the auditor general seat currently occupied by Jack Wagner, who has reached his term limit. He will be squaring off against Frank Pinto of Harrisburg in the April 24 Republican primary. Maher or Pinto will move on to face state Rep. Eugene DePasquale of York County, who is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination as auditor general.
