POLL: Too Many Preseason Games in the NFL?

Many NFL players just try to stay healthy until the regular season starts.

Is it too much to ask to have your top three draft picks healthy for the regular season? How 'bout just one of them? Although their second-round pick, offensive tackle Mike Adams, has seemingly recovered from his preseason knee injury, the Pittsburgh Steelers may be without first-round guard David DeCastro and third-round linebacker Sean Spence for at least a large part of the 2012 regular season after DeCastro and Spence both suffered serious knee injuries during the NFL's mandatory four-game preseason. Debates over the value of preseason games when the injury risks associated with them are weighed in have waged for years among football fans, and a rash of injuries to promising young Steelers this preseason has gotten many Pittsburghers …

On top of the player risks, the preseason games, required by the teams to be purchased as part of a season ticket package, amount to a surcharge on the season ticket package since no one really should have to pay full price for glorified scrimmages.   more ›

POLL: What to Do with Mike Wallace?

The Steelers will start preseason play in 2012 without the Pro Bowl receiver.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to replace much of their depth and leadership from a year ago. Gone are Aaron Smith, James Farrior, Chris Hoke and Hines Ward and their combined eight Super Bowl titles, 12 AFC championships, five All-Pro honors, seven Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl MVP trophy. And joining that list of ex-Steelers could be Mike Wallace, another player with an appearance in both a Super and Pro bowl. Wallace's all-star year came just a season ago, as he led the Steelers with 72 receptions, almost 1,200 receiving yards, and eight touchdown catches—six more than fellow Pro Bowler Antonio Brown, who was signed to a $42.5-million contract extension through the 2017 season on July 27, this year. Wallace is in a contract …

How Do You Like the Steelers' New Nike Uniforms?

Nike, the NFL's new uniform supplier, unveils its new line of player garb featuring shape-retaining fabric and a trimmer fit.

Trimmer fit. Vibrant colors. New necklines and fabric. Nike and the NFL say these additions will improve—but won't drastically change the appearance of—NFL players who will wear its new line of uniforms this season. The sports gear maker called on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and players from the league's 31 other teams to model new uniforms Tuesday when it unveiled them in New York. Nike became the league's official provider of apparel this week. As with most of the other NFL teams, the Steelers' beloved black-and-gold striped jersey will not look much different when the team resumes play this fall. The most noticeable difference? The placement of the Nike "swoosh" logo, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Most…

Football Fan Camp Comes to Pittsburgh

The winner could go to the 2012 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

The Bud Light Fan Camp is coming to Greentree on Saturday and football fans can prove their mettle in a variety of Bud Light-themed challenges. The winner will receive a trip to the 2012 Pro Bowl in Honolulu, on Jan. 29, where they will compete for the title of Bud Light Fan Camp Champ. At this rather unorthodox football competition, teams of four people (two men and two women) will kick footballs through inflatable uprights, try to hit passing targets, catch footballs launched from a cannon, play a game of flag football and even flaunt their skills in Madden NFL 12. The Bud Light Fan Camp's stop in Pittsburgh—at the Greentree SportsPlex from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday—is one of 60 stops nationwide. Teams will earn points during each …
