Canon-McMillan Area Under Frost Advisory

Frost is possible Saturday morning.

It's going to a be a chilly start to the Memorial Day weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for Washington County, including Canonsburg, Cecil and North Strabane. The advisory will remain in effect from 3 to 8 a.m. Saturday as temperatures hover around 32 degrees. Be sure to cover your sensitive plants and bring potted plants indoors. Cool Weekend Predicted for Town Park Pool Holiday Opening

Town Park pool in Canonsburg opens Saturday.

The forecast isn't looking so hot for swimming at Town Park pool in Canonsburg when it opens for the Memorial Day weekend. The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 63 degrees on Saturday. Town Park pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The daily schedule will begin June 8. Severe Thunderstorm Watch Expires for Canon-McMillan Area

The watch expired early.

Update: The watch has expired. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for southwestern Pennsylvania, including Canonsburg, North Strabane and Cecil. The watch remains in effect through 10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service, which says some storms cound be severe with damaging winds.  The chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected mainly after 5 p.m. and before midnight.  If you take any weather photos, please share them in the media box above. Severe Thunderstorm Possible Wednesday Afternoon in Canon-McMillan Area

The primary threat would be from damaging wind gusts.

There is a small chance that thunderstorms may become severe Wednesday afternoon in Canonsburg, Cecil and North Strabane, according to a hazardous outlook issued by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh. "The primary threat would be from damaging wind gusts, but large hail is also possible," the statement says. National Weather Service Issues Freeze Warning for Canon-McMillan Area

Unprotected plants will be damaged.

Canonsburg, North Strabance, Cecil and the surrounding area is under a freeze warning from 1 to 8 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures may dip into the 20s overnight. Meteorologists warn that unprotected outdoor plants will likely be damaged or killed, so cover the plants and bring potted plants indoors. The temperature is expected to rise throughout the week. The high on Wednesday will be around 80 degrees.

But no worries: Warmer weather is on its way.

It's not exactly going to be a flip-flop and shorts kinda day. According to the National Weather Service, the Canon-McMillan Patch area will see mostly sunny skies today, but the high temperature will be just 53. And that's not all: Just like last night, areas of frost after 1 a.m. is expected. Otherwise, Monday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 33. Those anxiously awaiting warmer spring weather won't have to wait long, though. Tuesday is expected to be about 63 degrees—with even more pleasant temperatures expected later in the week. Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Area

It will remain in effect until 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for our area. At 5:26 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was detected near Burgettstown, and was moving northeast at 35 mph, the agency's website indicated. The storm is capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging wings in excess of 60 mph. "This is a dangerous storm," the website stated. "Move into a sturdy building and avoid windows." The warning remains in effect until 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.
