Checkpoint, Roving Patrols Net Six DUI Arrests

Peters Township police said that 150 vehicles were stopped at the checkpoint in Cross Creek this past Saturday.

A checkpoint and roving patrols in Cross Creek this past Saturday resulted in six driving under the influence arrests, Peters Township police confirmed Monday. Police Capt. Michael Yanchak said that the public safety initiative was the result of a collaborative effort between the Pennsylvania State Police—which have jurisidiction in the municipality—and the Washington County Drug Task Force. Officers from the City of Washington, North Strabane, Cecil, Peters and Mt. Pleasant assisted with the DUI checkpoint, which was in place from 7 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. Canonsburg Woman Charged With False Reports Over Peters Shooting 'Hoax'

A Canonsburg woman was jailed early Thursday after being charged by Peters Township police with disorderly conduct and making false reports. Tara Howard, 36, was charged by Peters Township police Wednesday and arraigned early Thursday before district Judge Jay Weller, online court records indicate. The Observer Reporter newspaper indicates that several area departments surrounded a house in the 400 block of Justabout Road in Peters Township Wednesday afternoon after Washington County 911 received a call that someone was shot and bleeding inside the residence. It was later determined to be a hoax, as reported online by the Peters Township Volunteer Fire Department on its Facebook page. Weller remanded Howard to the Washington County Jail …

63-Year-Old Canonsburg Woman Briefly Jailed for Alleged Retail Theft in Peters

Kathleen Joy was arraigned for retail theft Wednesday.

A 63-year-old Canonsburg woman was briefly jailed after being charged by Peters Township Police for retail theft, which is a misdemeanor. Online court records show Kathleen Joy was arraigned Wednesday before district Judge Ethan Ward, and remanded to the Washington County Jail after failing to initially post a $5,000 percentage bond. She was released a few hours later, according to the jail list. According to the Observer-Reporter, Joy allegedly stole $185 worth of merchandise from the Giant Eagle in Peters Township. Online court records show that Joy is scheduled to appear before district Judge James Ellis at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 15.

A Venetia man was jailed Monday after being charged by Peters Township police for two felony counts of burglary and one count of loitering at night. Corey Grabowski, 23, was arraigned on the charges by district Judge James Ellis and remanded to the Washington County Jail on $50,000 bond, according to online court records. Peters Township police said Grabowski allegedly broke into the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce building and stole a laptop computer. Police said he also broke into a nearby dental office and stole $200. Police apprehended Grabowski when a resident called early Sunday morning to report a man walking through a rear yard dressed in all black, police said. DA Encourages Participation in Drug Take Back Day This Weekend

Residents can bring their expired, unused or unwanted medications to several locations across the county Saturday—including one in Canonsburg.

Many Washington County police departments—in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency—will give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs this weekend. This service—held at various locations, including one in Canonsburg—is free and anonymous. Last October, Americans turned in 377,080 pounds—188.5 tons—of prescription drugs at more than 5,300 sites operated by the DEA, and approximately 4,000 at state and local law enforcement partners' locations. In the three previous take-back events, the DEA and its partners took in almost a million pounds—nearly 500 tons—of pills, according to Washington County District Attorney Eugne …

Peters Police Searching for Missing Woman

A 73-year-old Venetia woman went missing from her home recently.

A search is being conducted for a 73-year-old woman who was reported missing to Peters Township police Tuesday.  Rita Ann Canchola of Venetia was last seen Thursday at her residence in Fox Run and was reported missing by family members. Canchola is 4 feet, 11 inches tall, according to Peters police.  Police say she has gray and white hair, and is bowlegged. Man Accused of Threatening Paralyzed Policeman

Irvin Glaze was charged with harassment and other charges Monday, after authorities say he threatened officer James Kuzak. He was jailed today.

A Wilkinsburg man is in jail after the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department charged him Monday with threatening James Kuzak—the former Cecil and Peters Township officer who was paralyzed after being shot while responding to a home invasion while working in Clairton. “Investigators say (Irvin) Glaze threatened to knock Kuzak out of his wheelchair following the acquittal of two men on attempted homicide charges in connection with (the) April 2011 home-invasion,” the Associated Press reported. One of the men was convicted of burglary and other charges in that case. “Officials say the man, Glaze, also caused a disturbance in a courtroom after threatening Kuzak,” according to the news agency. Peters Police Searching for Man on the Run

Peters Township police are looking for a man who fled from the scene of an accident on Churchill Road.

Peters Township police are searching for a man who fled from the scene of a single-vehicle accident earlier this afternoon.  At approximately 1 p.m., witnesses reported to police they saw a vehicle crash, roll over and the operator flee on Churchill Road in the vicinity of Turkeyfoot Road in Venetia.  The male is described as in his mid-20s and Caucasian with dark hair. Police say he's either wearing a red or black shirt. Witnesses told Peters police they do not think he's injured. It is believed he first fled onto the hillside between Churchill and Sagewood Drive. Bicycler Accused of DUI Headed to Trial

The Upper St. Clair police chief's son was arrested by Peters Township police last August.

An Upper St. Clair man accused of driving under the influence of alcohol while riding a bicycle on Route 19 in Peters Township last year was held for trial on that and other charges Monday. District Judge Valarie Costanzo held John Anthony Pardini, 44, for trial on charges of DUI (third offense), public drunkenness, resisting arrest, possession of a small amount of marijuana, use of drug paraphernalia and a traffic violation, a clerk confirmed. Online court records indicate the charges stem from an Aug. 6, 2011 incident. Pardini, of Monterey Drive, Upper St. Clair, was arrested in August 2011 when an officer spotted him riding a bike in circles on Washington Road just before 11:30 p.m. The charges were refilled last month by Peters police…

Canonsburg Woman Arrested for Solvents in Peters

The woman—arrested for the fourth time—was found unconscious by Peters police in McDowell Shops.

Arrested for the fourth time by Peters Township police, a North Strabane woman who was charged three previous times last year for inhaling solvents while behind the wheel, was found unconscious in her car at the McDowell Shops, according to the Observer-Reporter.  On Sunday morning, Christine Ann Keller, 50, of 428 Mary Lane, Canonsburg, regained consciousness, but her speech was slurred and she was perspiring, the newspaper reports.  Police said they found multiple cans of Blast Away Multi-Purpose Duster in her vehicle, according to the O-R.  Keller was taken to Washington County Jail on a detainer through the county’s adult probation department, according to online court dockets.
