Santa Claus is trading in his sleigh and eight tiny reindeer for a scuba mask and snorkel. Splash Water Sports on Banksville Road is organizing an “Underwater Santa” fundraising event where he’ll be SCUBA diving with friends at the Chartiers Valley High School pool Saturday afternoon “It’s a great event,” said Andy Kunig, store manager and training director at the Splash Water Sports. “It’s pretty popular with the kids.” The event benefits the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, so people participating are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or make a $5 donation. “It helps the community and it helps the food bank,” Kunig said.
