It’s Official—Gladys Knight to Appear at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino

The eight-time Grammy award winner will perform at the North Strabane venue next month.

Originally labeled as a “special guest,” The Meadows Racetrack & Casino announced that Gladys Knight will perform along with The O’Jays on June 29.  Known as the “Empress of Soul”—and an eight-time Grammy Award winner—Knight is sure to offer a memorable evening for guests at the North Strabane venue by performing many of her hits from her 38 albums recorded over a 50-year span. 'Weird Al,' Bill Cosby Slated for Performances at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino

Ronnie Dunn is also scheduled to perform at the North Strabane Township venue in celebration of the racetrack's 50th anniversary.

The Meadows Racetrack & Casino revealed its slate of national performances for the outdoor concert series for 2013—one that includes comedic and music legends.  The performances are anchored by comedians “Weird Al” Yankovic and Bill Cosby and are part of the entertainment facility’s celebration of the racetrack’s 50th anniversary. “Weird Al” Yankovic kicks off the concert series as part of his Alpocalypse Tour on June 1 and is known for his humorous songs that make light of popular culture.  This year’s concerts also include the incredibly energetic and dynamic band—The O’Jays, which will appear on June 29 with a surprise special guest to be announced on April 29.  As one of America’s top soulful sounds group, The O’Jays have generated 24 …

Palone Escapes Serious Injury in Meadows Mishap

Bethann Palone said her husband suffered bruises on his right arm and shoulder and lower back.

Hall of Fame driver Dave Palone escaped serious injury Monday in a mishap at The Meadows that saw him flipped from the sulky and bounced along the track. The accident occurred in the 10th race when Palone’s horse, North Bay Hanover, locked wheels with another horse near the finish line. Palone maintained his grip on the lines when he was ejected from the sulky, so that when North Bay Hanover did not pull up immediately, Palone bounced on the racing surface behind him. Palone knelt briefly on the track but eventually walked off under his own power and declined a trip to the hospital. Table Games Revenue Down $1 Million

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board releases February table games revenue.

The table games revenue at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in North Strabane fell about $1 million in February from a year ago. The Meadows table games revenue was $2,934,701 in February 2012 and just $1,941,422 in February 2013, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The casino's general Manager Sean Sullivan told the Observer-Reporter that "a variety of factors, from weather to a shorter month (2012 was a leap year) to a guest who won big against the house, all contributed to the revenue loss." Presque Isle Downs and Casino in Erie saw the most revenue lost.  Three casinos saw a revenue increase in February 2013—the Rivers Casino on the North Sore, the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and the Sands Casinos Resort Bethlehem. …

Veteran Trainer, Driver, Injured During Meadows 'Training Mishap'

He was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital.

A veteran trainer and driver was injured Friday morning in a training mishap at The Meadows, a spokesman for the venue confirmed. Rod Bolon, 54, was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for observation and treatment. His condition was unknown Friday afternoon. Horsemen at the scene described him as conscious and alert following the incident, the spokesman said. The Meadows will provide an updated story once more details are known, according to a statement.
