Longtime Police Sergeant Retires Amid Blue Ribbon Tribute

This morning marks the end of Sgt. Tom Weaver's final shift as a member of the Cecil Township Police Department.

But then, Cecil Township police Chief John T. Pushak said Weaver’s love for the force was evident from the moment he was hired. Weaver had initially worked in Canonsburg as an officer but was furloughed, forcing him to seek work in another field before approaching the Cecil department, Pushak said. “He said, ‘All I want to be is a policeman,’” Pushak recalled. Thank You Notes, Blue Ribbons Cropping Up Around Cecil

This sign outside the Muse Volunteer Fire Department is one of the latest community tributes to a longtime retiring police officer.

Blue ribbons and thank you notes keep cropping up across Cecil Township as a tribute to retiring long-time Cecil police Sgt. Tom Weaver. Members of the Muse Volunteer Fire Department recently posted a thank you message on the sign outside their department—one of many tokens of appreciation seen in the township. Weaver's daughter, Angela, spearheaded the Sergeant Weaver Blue Ribbon Tribute. "So many blue ribbons appearing and I LOVE it!!" Angela Weaver wrote on the event's Facebook page this week. "We still have time until the 18th so please keep putting those blue ribbons out there, lets fill the whole township!! Love you all, thanks!!" For more information on the tribute, to add a photo to our online scrap book for Sgt. Weaver or to leave…

Operation 'Sergeant Weaver Blue Ribbon Tribute' Underway

The longtime member of the Cecil Township Police Department is retiring—read how you can be part of his daughter's tribute to him.

I was struck by Angela Weaver’s idea—the Sergeant Weaver Blue Ribbon Tribute—and was inspired to think of how we at Canon-McMillan Patch could show our gratitude for her dad’s years of service protecting the community. But I’m getting ahead of myself (as I usually do). And besides, this is Angela’s story, anyway. So I will let her tell it. Here’s what she wrote on the Sergeant Weaver Blue Ribbon Tribute page: “Hello Cecil Twp! I need your help to honor a wonderful man, my father—Tom Weaver. You probably know him as Sergeant Tom …
