Washington Financial recently announced the election of Mary Lyn Drewitz as chairwoman of its board of directors, as well as two additions to its senior officers—Harry Stiffler, Jr. and Robert Vettorel. Drewitz’s appointment marks the first time in Washington Financial’s 113-year history that the board leadership position will be held by a woman. Drewitz is currently a partner in the law firm Goldfarb, Posner, Beck, DeHaven & Drewitz and has been a director of the bank’s board for the past 17 years. The bank welcomes Stiffler as senior vice president and general counsel. As general counsel, Stiffler will provide legal counsel to, and represent the bank on a range of topics. Casey Alexa Peel logged 300 volunteer hours.
Washington Financial recently awarded 10 scholarships to help local students offset the costs of higher education—and one of them went to a recent Canon-McMillan High School graduate. Casey Alexa Peel, who received the scholarship, is actively involved in Adaptive Sports, where she logged 300 hours volunteering for sporting events, dances and other events for individuals who are physically or mentally challenged. She plans to study International Leadership at Marietta College. “It is an honor to receive this scholarship, not only as a means of financial aid, but as an investment in furthering my education so I can contribute to my community,” Peel said.
