The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory for the Pittsburgh region from 11 p.m. Sunday until 2 p.m. Monday. A period of snow and freezing rain is expected overnight Sunday, before changing to all rain by Monday afternoon. National Weather Service forecasts hazardous travel conditions.
Two Clipper-type systems will mean lots of snow is coming to western Pennsylvania this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather advisory for snow is in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday. The weather service forecasts snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches; those totals could go as high as 6 to 10 inches in the higher ridge elevations. The snow will begin mid-morning Saturday and end Sunday evening, with the heaviest snow coming Saturday afternoon into midday Sunday, NWS states on its website. Canon-McMillan School District announced there will be an hour-and-a-half early dismissal today because of the weather conditions. According to WPXI-TV, afternoon kindergarten and all evening activities have also been cancelled.

Mayor David H. Rhome said the borough road crew continued to work to improve conditions. Meanwhile, roads in Cecil and North Strabane are clear.
Canonsburg roads are in "almost excellent condition" Saturday afternoon, in the wake of an ice and snow storm that pummeled the region Friday night into this mornng. "I must tell you that our road crews have been out around the clock and continue to go out to improve conditions," Mayor David H. Rhome said early Saturday afternoon. But he did advise motorists to take it slow and be careful, as there are still some slick spots on certain side streets. North Strabane Manager Frank Siffrinn said the township's road crew was called out last night, and that roads in the community are completely clear. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for a wintery mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow, going into effect at 7 tonight and ending at 1 p.m. Saturday. The area is supposed to get 1/4-inch of ice and 1 to 2 inches of snow tonight. Tonight's low is 24 degrees, with a high of 32 Saturday. Snow likely will start before midnight Saturday, then snow, freezing rain and sleet. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible. How much snow did you see at your home?
A winter weather advisory is in effect for all of southwest Pennsylvania until 4 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service reports that at 8:55 a.m., the doppler radar indicated bands of heavy snow showers along a line extending from four miles northeast of Homeworth to eight miles east of Ohiopyle. Some locations that will be impacte by these bands of heavy snow showers include the South Hills. Snow can accumulate a quick one or two inches where these bands of heavier snow showers persist, according to the National Weather Service. Visibilities can become sharply reduced and untreated pavements can become snow-covered and slippery. There are traffic delays on I-79 near Bridgeville.
