'If the decision to drop wrestling were made this month, I would have thought it an April Fools’ Day joke,' state Rep. Brandon Neuman said.
State Rep. Brandon Neuman on Monday applauded the state House and Senate for their unanimous approval of concurrent resolutions urging the International Olympic Committee to restore wrestling as an Olympic sport for the 2020 Summer Games. “The Olympic committee’s decision to drop wrestling is incomprehensible in Pennsylvania,” Neuman, D-North Strabane, said. “Wrestling is ingrained in our culture, and Pennsylvania is the hotbed of wrestling, renowned for its wrestlers and high school and college programs. The legislator continued: “We speak with one voice—wrestling must be restored for the 2020 Olympics,” Neuman said. “The committee must be shown the error of its ways and restore this time-honored sport to its rightful spot as a premier …

More than 100 people have signed the online petition.
Washington County is petitioning the International Olympics Committee to include wrestling in the 2020 games. "Wrestling has been a part of the Olympic Games since the modern games began, and the Greco-Roman version goes back to the ancient games," the online petition, posted on Change.org, stated. "Wrestling is one of the sports that the Olympics were built on. It is one of the sports that define what the Olympics are about." More than 100 people have signed the petition so far—and the signatures weren't just from local folks. A man from Michigan signed, as did one from the United Kingdom. News that the IOC had dropped wrestling from the 2020 lineup also prompted one local lawmaker to introduce a special resolution last month. State Rep. …

'Wrestling embodies the core ideals of the Olympics and it must remain part of the Summer Games," Neuman said. "The dream of competing in the Olympics has motivated thousands of young people to set goals, work hard and overcome challenges for generations.
State Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-North Strabane, will introduce a concurrent resolution urging the International Olympic Committee to restore wrestling as an Olympic sport for the 2020 Summer Games. "Wrestling embodies the core ideals of the Olympics and it must remain part of the Summer Games," Neuman said. "The dream of competing in the Olympics has motivated thousands of young people to set goals, work hard and overcome challenges for generations." The International Olympic Committee executive council voted earlier this month to drop wrestling from the 2020 Olympics. The sport has been a staple of Olympic competition from the ancient games to the return of the modern games in 1896. "Wrestling is part of the culture in many Pennsylvania …
