Man, Family With Kids Displaced by Canonsburg House Fire

No injuries were reported.

A single man and a family with two chidren were displaced from their apartments after a fire was reported around 3 p.m. Thursday. Canonsburg Assistant Fire Chief Tim Solobay said there were two apartments in the building located at 202 Orchard Ave. The building is owned by Alphonso D'Amica, and sustained heavy damage. Whie no injuries were reported, the American Red Cross was called in to help the family that lived on the first floor of the building. Solobay said the blaze was electrical in nature, and that crews from Canonsburg, Houston, North Strabane and Peters Township all responded. First responders were on scene until about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the assistant chief added. No further information was immediately available Thursday night…

Fire Call Forces Evacuation of Southpointe Building

The building at 6000 Town Center Way sustained minimal damage, fire officials said.

Office workers at 6000 Town Center—Embassy Park West—in Southpointe were evacuated for about two hours Wednesday afternoon after a heating unit on the third floor malfunctioned, filling the bathrooms with smoke. Fire officials from Muse, Cecil, Canonsburg, Houston, Peters, North Strabane responded to the scene. Fire officials said there was minimal damage to the building. Cecil Township Police Department also responded to the incident, which took place around noon. SouthBridge EMS also responded and transported a woman to the hospital for an unrelated medical issue.

Updated: Two Injured in North Strabane Crash

A Washington County 911 supervisor said one person was ejected from the vehicle during the late-Tuesday crash.

Editor's Note: This story was updated at 9:37 a.m. to include more information from police and to correct the name of the street on which the crash occurred. Two people was injured after a crash on Linden Road in North Strabane Township Tuesday night, North Strabane police said Wednesday. Police said the crash happened when the driver hit an embankment and then a telephone pole. The names of the victims were not released Wednesday. One victim was ejected from the vehicle during the one-car crash, a Washington County 911 had confirmed Tuesday. A landing zone was being set up in a nearby park for an emergency medical helicopter to transport one victim to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. The other was taken by ambulance. Nearby: No Injuries Reported in Houston Structure Fire

A Washington County 911 supervisor said several local fire departments are on scene.

Fire crews from Chartiers Township, Canonsburg, North Strabane Township and Peters Township responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of Haft Avenue in Houston Sunday afternoon. A Washington County 911 supervisor confirmed just after 3:15 p.m. Sunday that there were no injuries. No traffic restrictions were reported.

North Strabane Fire Department Hosting Open House Saturday

The event is being held in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Month.

As part of National Fire Prevention Month, the North Strabane Fire Department is hosting an open house from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Adults and kids alike are invited to take part in the festivities, which include demonstrations—such as one of a second-floor evacuation, and one that will teach participants pet CPR. Visitors can also peruse the department’s various pieces of equipment and vehicles. “We’ll also have two cars to cut up,” North Strabane fire fighter Kim Bonifield said, referring to a demonstration of a vehicle rescue. North Strabane, Peters Fire Departments Receive Grant for Volunteer Firefighter Recruiting

The grant was for $43,000.

The North Strabane and Peters Township Fire Departments have received a $43,200 Grant from the U. S. Fire Administration to develop and implement a program to recruit new volunteer firefighters in both communities.  This grant was submitted under the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response—SAFER—program, and Peters fire Chief Dan Coyle and North Strabane Fire Chief Mark Grimm received notification of the award earlier this summer.  The grant will cover this program over a two-year period, and will be used to develop a new firefighter recruit program which will include communications, media, equipment, supplies and administration.  Coyle and Grimm assigned firefighters to work together on program development, which began last …

Tornado Touchdown 'One of the Scariest Moments' of Reader's Life

The National Weather Service confirmed that the tornado touched down earlier this afternoon.

The National Weather Service reported that a tornado briefly touched down in Eighty-Four earlier this afternoon in what one Canon-McMillan Patch reader called one of the most frightening moments of her life. “My children and I saw the tornado coming over the hill behind our home around 4 p.m.,” Christine Kubeck Yankel wrote on the Facebook page of Canon-McMillan Patch. “It was one of the scariest moments of my life. Thank God we and our fellow neighbors only sustained minor damage!” North Strabane Fire Chief Mark Grimm said the department responded to a vehicle crash during the storm Thursday—one with no injuries. North Strabane Firemen 'People's Choice'

Congrats to the department, which won the BBQ cook off held at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino this past weekend.

Congratulations to the North Strabane Fire Department, which won a first-place "People's Choice" award during a BBQ cook off held last weekend at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino. The department also came in second place overall. A total donation of $1,770 was garnered from the event, which will go toward the department's needs. Three other Washington County-area fire departments participated in the event, including Avella, California and Monongahela. California earned the title of Grand Champions, a casino spokesman confirmed. The Meadows also provided two free concerts featuring Pure Gold and the Four Townsmen and boasted more than 500 vehicles at a car cruise held the same day.
