Cecil Township police are charging a Canonsburg man with driving under the influence following a crash on state Route 980 early Sunday morning. Officers were dispatched to the area after Washington County 911 received a phone call from a driver who had passed the crash scene. When police arrived, officers said they discovered that the vehicle had crashed into a guard rail on state Route 980 near its intersection with Muse-Bishop—and that the driver, later identified as Allen Wargo Jr., 24, of Vista Drive, was asleep behind the wheel. First responders said the man suffered serious injuries during the crash Friday morning.
Editor's Note: This story was updated at 3:40 p.m. Bystanders to a one-vehicle crash helped lift a pickup truck off of a driver who was ejected and trapped underneath it Friday morning, emergency responders who were at the scene confirm. Police said the man, Jayson Darnley, 21, of McDonald, suffered severe torso and back injuries. He was transported to UPMC-Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, where a spokeswoman said he was in critical condition. A two-vehicle crash on state Route 980 and O'Hare Road in Cecil Township resulted in one woman being transported to an area hospital Saturday. Police said Madison Siwiak, of Canonsburg, who was stopped at Chartiers Run Road, told police she did not see any oncoming traffic when she turned onto state Route 980. And that's when she was hit. The driver of the second vehicle, Terri Comer, of McDonald, said she saw the vehicle turning, but that she did not have time to slow down or stop. Neither Siwiak nor her passenger were injured, while Comer was transported to Canonsburg General Hospital for treatment of a foot injury, police said. One witness said there was "water everywhere."
A water main break was reported in the 1300 block of state Route 980 near Loution Drive in Cecil Township Wednesday morning. Witnesses report there is "water everywhere" and that Pennsylvania American Water is working to correct the problem. Be cautious if you are driving in the area. Cecil Township police said driving under the influence charges are pending against a driver involved in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday night on state Route 980 and Vista Drive. Leah Grossman told officers that she was driving north on state Route 980 when a vehicle in the oncoming lane of traffic crossed the center line, striking her SUV. Both vehicles came to rest in the middle of the roadway, police said. Neither Grossman nor the other driver, Ricky D. Litton, of Claysville, were injured according to police. However, when officers approached Litton, they noted that he had slurred speech and that he was having difficulty standing. No injuries were reported following a rollover crash that happened around 5:35 p.m. Sunday.
First responders in Cecil Township said Sunday afternoon that state Route 980 is now reopened after a rollover car accident in the 1900 block of the throughway. A Washington County 911 supervisor confirmed that the accident happened around 5:35 p.m.—and that there were no injuries. The roadway was closed for more than a half-hour following the crash, according to members of the Muse Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to Muse VFD, SouthBridge EMS also responded to the scene.

The state Department of Transportation is advising motorists about daylight, single-lane restrictions northbound Interstate 79 between state Route 519 and state Route 980 Monday and Tuesday. The restrictions will be in place from 9 a.m. until dark on those days so that concrete slabs can be stabilized.
