'Downed Wires' Might be Due to Seismic Testing

The wires pose no hazard to residents.

A concerned resident called on Monday to report wires down in her driveway on Profio Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters found groups of wires on the ground.

"These items are pretty much found just thrown along the side of the road with no notification of any sort," according to fire Capt. James Chabalie. "After investigating the items, it was found that they are being used to conduct seismic testing in the area."

Chabalie said the items can appear suspicious at first look, however, they pose no hazard. He said there is no need for anyone to alert emergency responders about them.

Seismic testing is routinely done in conjunction with Marcellus Shale drilling. Anyone with any questions about wires near their homes can contact Dawson Geophysical at 1-800-332-9766.
