Golf Outing to Support New Community Youth Center

A local Christian organization plan to turn a Canonsburg landmark into a community center.

A September golf outing will support one group's effort to bring a new community youth center to the Canonsburg area.

JR Gardner and the Youth for Christ organization are acquiring the National Guard Armory building at 16 West College Avenue, according to a release issued by the organization, and the group plans to use the space for a Christian Community Youth Center.

The golf outing is Saturday, Sept. 7 at Lindenwood Golf Club and the cost is $125 per person. Play begins at 1 p.m.

Funds from the outing will be put toward the $500,000 cost of renovating the building, which already includes a full gymnasium. According to the organization's news release, the building and first-year operation expenses already have been paid by an anonymous donor.

The organization plans to use the future community center for a number of youth activities, including athletic programs, mentoring, Campus Life club meetings, a safe haven space and other community partnership programs.

Registrations forms are due Aug. 30. The registration form is attached to this article, and also is available at The Armory Youth Center Facebook page.
