Cecil Supervisors Want Meeting With DEP Over Worstell Impoundment

A vote for the meeting was approved unanimously.

Cecil Township supervisors on Monday decided to request a meeting with the state Department of Environmental Protection regarding the Range Resources Worstell waste water impoundment on Swihart Road.

Township Manager Don Gennuso said a vote to approve the meeting was unanimous.

The request for a meeting comes after the township sent a letter to the state Department of Environmental Protection in November regarding concerns over the site—especially in light of information that Range Resources is planning a major modification there.

The letter sent by the township was in response to a notice received about those modifications from the DEP, and Gennuso said the municipality still has not received a response from the agency.

Since that letter, it was also discovered that there was a leak from a waste tank with a faulty valve at the site. About 30 gallons of recycled waste water escaped the tank. A DEP spokesman said Range Resources replaced the valve, as well as nearby gravel. He said that further testing indicated that none of that water entered the ground.
